Congrats to Dr. Marlea Miano - Newly Appointed Chief Medical Officer at UH Geauga!
CONGRATS to Dr. Marlea Miano, our current Medical Director and leader of our emergency department’s clinical operations team, who will be the new Chief Medical Officer at UH Geauga Medical Center on February 1.
Alongside the Executive Leadership Team, Dr. Miano will work to enhance clinical programs and services, patient outcomes, safety and quality. Additional priorities will include serving as the liaison between administration and the medical staff, and partnering with the Executive Team to hire new physicians to help provide a growing range of services for Geauga County.
Dr. Miano is an incredible leader and clinician, and we look forward to continue learning from her leadership in our system. We have no doubt that she will excel in this role!
Dr. Miano returned home to Northeast Ohio when she joined UH in 2019. She has been instrumental in the creation of UH Remote, and its rapid acceleration amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, as the home care medical director. Her experience in linking acute care with post-acute services, and leadership of a home care platform, will continue to serve UH and the greater Geauga community as we innovate care delivery. Dr. Miano has also served as a key leader of the Center for Emergency Medicine clinical operations team.
Prior to joining UH, she coordinated a facility transition and helped to convert a free-standing ED to an inpatient hospital with an operating suite in order to increase admission rates. Dr. Miano developed protocols and tackled operational issues of the new hospital, and also advocated for robust, consultative services to ensure the hospital retained inpatient volume. She has experience in managing openings of various new patient services and labs, including a cardiac cath lab and endoscopy suite. Dr. Miano served as the founder and chair of the Premier ED order set committee, and has experience as an Epic champion to integrate and optimize EMR best practices.
Dr. Miano attended the Auburn Career Center Paramedic Program, and earned her bachelor’s degree in science from John Carroll University. She attended Case Western Reserve University Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, and completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at Wright State University. Dr. Miano is also a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Medical Services.
