Ultrasound Fellowship
Overview
The Ultrasound Fellowship at UHCMC is a one-year program designed to produce leaders in the field of emergency ultrasound. As a fellow, you will have many unique opportunities, locally, nationally, and internationally, with a specific focus on education, scholarship, and development and administration of a successful ultrasound program. Fellowship Details
Length of Fellowship: 1 year
Salary: $100,000 + CME and benefits. Additional opportunities for moonlighting.
Required Clinical Hours: 800 hours per year. Number of shifts per month and duration of shifts (between 8-12 hours) will depend on clinical site(s)
Academic Appointment: Clinical Instructor, Case Western Reserve University
Number of Clinical Sites: 4
Primary site for POCUS education: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center
Tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma Center for both pediatric and adult patients with an expansive surrounding catchment area that results in a high acuity and diverse patient population. The department is comprised of 50+ patient rooms seeing a total volume of 100,000+ patients per year.
Community sites (majority of clinical shifts) include UH Ahuja Medical Center, UH Parma Medical Center, UH Geauga Medical Center
Educational Experience
Institutional
Weekly ultrasound division didactics (2-3 hours) includes group image review, journal club, faculty/fellow lectures, and case presentations to supplement required textbook readings, podcasts, educational videos
Participate in departmental ultrasound quality assurance. Fellows review all scans from the department as well as community sites.
8-hour scanning shift per week with ultrasound faculty
Interdepartmental opportunities including:
Trans-esophageal echocardiography with cardiothoracic anesthesia/critical care colleagues
Advanced MSK ultrasound with sports medicine colleagues
Trans-vaginal ultrasound with OB/gyn colleagues
Pediatric-focused ultrasound with pediatric emergency medicine & critical care colleagues
Regional anesthesia rotation with anesthesia colleagues
External
Fellows can enhance their educational experience through involvement in teaching and learning at national and international conferences, adding an avenue for professional networking and scholarly advancement.
National/international conference participation opportunities include:
ACEP, SAEM, AIUM, WCUME, WINFOCUS, SCUF
ACEP Ultrasound Management Course is highly encouraged
International education/teaching opportunities are available
Other Responsibilities:
Lectures and hands-on education (including EM residents, CWRU medical students, interdepartmental resident/fellow teaching)
Research project
Maintain ultrasound equipment, interface with IT
