Sports Medicine Overview

Hello, thank you for taking the time to learn about the University Hospitals Sports Medicine Institute Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship! We have faculty from a range of specialties including Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics. We work with high schools, colleges, and professional teams in the Cleveland Area.

Professional organizations we work closely with: Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Monsters, and the Cleveland Ballet.

Rotation Opportunities: We have clinical rotation opportunities that will focus on Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal pathology. We have faculty that have a special focus in Ultrasound Guided Musculoskeletal procedures and with use of Orthobiologics. Residents will spend time during their clinical rotations in this setting, but have the opportunity to spend additional time with an Elective Rotation focused in Sports Medicine.

Sports Coverage: Sports Medicine Fellows and Emergency Medicine Residents have sports coverage opportunities with mass sporting events as well as high school, college, and professional sports.

Didactics: We offer weekly lectures in Sports Medicine, Orthopedics, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. Additionally, we host hands on Ultrasound Didactics weekly for 1 hour that give residents and fellows the opportunity to have hands on scanning time to become more familiar with musculoskeletal anatomy and pathology.

National conferences: Residents and Fellows have the opportunity to attend or present at the AOASM (American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine) or the AMSSM (American Medical Society for Sports Medicine) conferences that are held annually in the Spring.
